2 Moves The Los Angeles Angels Need To Make

The Los Angeles Angels have turned themselves into a perennial failure each year.

This is despite having two of the most talented players in the sport.

Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani need help, and the Angels are in a position to get them that help.

Here is a look at two moves the team needs to make to elevate them to the playoffs.

2.Mitch Haniger

One smaller move the team could make to instantly improve their lineup is to sign outfielder Mitch Haniger.

While his 2022 season was hampered by an ankle sprain, he has proven his offensive ability during his career.

In 2021, he hit .253 with 39 home runs, being one of the most productive outfielders in all of baseball.

He would enter the lineup with Trout and Ohtani and fit right in, providing the two more protection that they didn’t have otherwise.

The move should also be relatively cost-efficient for the team, as Haniger may sign a short-term contract following an injury-riddled season.

1. Trea Turner

The Angels need a dependable shortstop.

They also need a true leadoff man to set the tables for Trout and Ohtani.

Trea Turner fits both of these roles better than any other free agents available.

Turner has experience living and playing in the Los Angeles area already, and moving across the city to the Angels could be very appealing.

He also provides strong defense, while being a clear offensive upgrade over Andrew Velazquez.

Between the addition of Turner and the return of a healthy Anthony Rendon, the Angels would instantly add critical depth to their lineup.

While this wouldn’t be everything they need, it would go a long way towards setting up the Angels for success in 2023.

It would also allow them to then focus on their pitching staff knowing that their offense can compete with some of the league’s best.
