The 2022 MLB season has come to an exciting finish.
The Houston Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in six games to win the World Series.
After an MLB playoff that saw the six-seed Phillies make it to the fall classic.
Who could be the 2023 version of the Phillies?
There are a few teams that need to have big offseason to put them in a position to go far in the postseason.
But, having a General Manager and Owner who are willing to spend money is key.
Here are two MLB teams who could surprise next season.
Baltimore Orioles
Like the Phillies in 2021, the Orioles finished right around .500 this season.
But, there is plenty of reason for optimism in 2023.
The Orioles have a loaded farm system and a ton of money to sign some key players.
The ascension of Adley Rutschman has been amazing to watch.
He went from the first-overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft to being in contention for AL rookie of the year.
One huge free agent to keep an eye on for the Orioles is Jacob deGrom.

That would be a massive move and the type of deal that a contender would make.
If they can add starting pitching and another big named hitter, the Orioles have a chance to make some noise next season.
Los Angeles Angels
There are not many teams that have been more disappointing in recent years than the Los Angeles Angels.
With Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout on your roster, you have to be a perennial playoff team.
The Angels have a chance to show they can become that in 2023.
This may be the Angels’ last chance at making something happen with their two stars in the building.
It is a mystery if Ohtani will want to re-sign with the Angels after this upcoming season when he is set to hit free agency.
Shohei Ohtani spoke about his future in Anaheim before the MLB trade deadline on August 2.

The best chance for LA to keep Ohtani is by making a postseason run this year.
If LA can acquire some more pitching and stay healthy this year, they have a chance to make a Phillies-type of run next year.
