The Boston Red Sox are coming off one of their most disappointing seasons in recent history.
They finished in last place in the division, despite having playoff hopes.
Now, as they enter the offseason, they are looking to make some core moves to build their roster for 2023.
Here are the two free agents that the team should target.
2. Xander Bogaerts
After failing to re-sign their star shortstop, Xander Bogaerts is hitting the market as one of the best options at the position.

It would be a major mistake for the Red Sox to let him sign somewhere else.
This has to be their number one priority this offseason.
Bogaerts is a fan favorite who has played more than well enough to deserve a large contract.
If the Red Sox want to avoid a large rebuild, it would be smart to keep Bogaerts.
This gives them a dependable leader at shortstop, and one of the most consistent bats in baseball at the plate.
1. Jose Abreu
It is expected that the Red Sox will move on from JD Martinez, who struggled during the second half of this season.
While the Red Sox have their first baseman of the future in Triston Cases, Jose Abreu would give them flexibility in their lineup.
Jose Abreu signing with the Red Sox would be full circle after missing out on him led to the Rusney Castillo signing.
It’s only right.

It would give them the opportunity to play matchups with the left handed Casas, while utilizing the DH spot as well.
Abreu also replaces Martinez’s production and even improve upon it.
It would also give the former White Sox star an opportunity on a bigger stage, something that he hasn’t had for much of his career.
While it isn’t necessarily the biggest splash, it could help improve the Red Sox roster heading into 2023.
